Infrastructure Improvements in Mills Mill Village

by | Apr 5, 2024

Mills Mill Village, a historic area broadly spanning from Chestnut Street to Guess Street, and Mills Avenue to Tremont Avenue, is home to a variety of establishments, including the Lofts at Mills Mill, Lifelong Learning at the Sullivan Center, Mill Village Farms, and Long Branch Baptist Church. Despite its rich history and cultural significance, the village faces aging infrastructure issues that require immediate attention. MetroConnects will be spearheading the Clean Water Forward initiative and soon be breaking ground in Mills Mill Village. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 to celebrate the start of infrastructure improvements.

Underneath the surface of Greenville’s picturesque landscape lies a network of aging pipes and infrastructure, some of which date back over a century. The importance of these wastewater systems often goes unnoticed, underscoring the critical need for proactive maintenance and improvements. The Clean Water Forward initiative is dedicated to safeguarding public health, protecting the environment, and preserving Greenville’s water resources for future generations.

To fund the necessary upgrades in Mills Mill Village, MetroConnects diligently pursued federal and state grants, securing over $27 million in funding. For the Mills Mill Village Sewer Replacement Project, MetroConnects received a $10 Million grant from the S.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority’s South Carolina Infrastructure Improvement Program (SCIIP); $1.5 Million in federal American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funds from Greenville County; and MetroConnects will add $1.5 Million in matching funds to complete the $13 Million project. An additional $10 million was granted by the SCIIP to go towards the Dunean project to be started in 2024.

As MetroConnects embarks on these vital infrastructure improvements, we remain committed to transparency, accountability, and community engagement. Through ongoing communication and collaboration with residents and stakeholders, MetroConnects aims to minimize disruptions and maximize the positive impact of these enhancements on Mills Mill Village and the wider Greenville community.
